Taking Safety Inspiration from Winnie The Pooh

“There’s so much inspiration we can take from Winnie The Pooh quotes for many aspects of our lives.”

Organisation and Teamwork

Ensuring a safe workplace requires organisation and teamwork, after all safety is everyone’s responsibility, not just the responsibility of one individual.

“Organising is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up.”

Taking time to plan and organise is vital to achieving a desired outcome and saves time in the long run. Teamwork is an important element of this, and it’s the different people playing different roles within the team that makes a whole. No one’s left out, no matter what their personal circumstances, just like Eeyore in Hundred Acre Wood.

Training

Training is such an important part in the world of safety, and something Bridget really enjoys doing. We’ve found a couple of Winnie The Pooh quotes that support the training aspect of occupational safety and health.

“To the uneducated, an A is just three sticks.”

It’s quite simple really – we don’t know what we don’t know so we all need to keep learning. It’s worth remembering that just because some of us know and understand something, it doesn’t mean that everyone else does.

“It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn’t use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like ‘What about lunch?’”

People learn in different ways, so a one-size-fits-all training approach doesn’t work. Training needs to be applied in the right way for the right audience, which is why we deliver both accredited and bespoke training in a number of different ways for our clients.

Managing Safety

Managing occupational safety and health is critical, and something that everyone needs to be involved in at every level.

“You can’t stay in your corner of the forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.”

We love this quote. Whatever the situation, you have to move out of your office or away from your usual position. Unless you sit somewhere different or take a different route, you’ll miss so many of the things that are actually happening around you. We can’t afford to miss anything when it comes to the safety of ourselves and others, so we encourage each of you to venture out of your corner of the forest and take a look around.

Advice

Sometimes, simple advice is all we need, and there’s none simpler than to watch where you’re going to prevent an accident.

“Always watch where you are going. Otherwise, you may step on a piece of the forest that was left out by mistake.”

So many accidents are avoidable, and not looking where you are going is often a cause of slips, trips or falls. It’s easy to get distracted by colleagues or to pay more attention to a mobile phone than look where you’re going or putting your feet. Simply thinking of this sound advice may be all it takes to avoid an incident.

Listening

“Finally, here’s a quote I know many love.” Says Bridget. “We need to remember that sometimes people don’t hear what we say and sometimes people aren’t listening. Be kind, keep trying and remember the following wise words.”

“If the person you are talking to doesn’t appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.”
