In many areas the law requires that your fire extinguisher should be inspected every six months and should be serviced or checked at least once a year. For most companies this will be sufficient. In addition, your fire extinguisher should be recharged any time that it is cracked open.

In some cases, if your fire extinguisher has not been serviced, your insurance company may not pay out on any losses that you take due to a fire. This is not the only reason to ensure that your fire extinguisher is useful and helpful but is is a very good reason. The most important reason to ensure that your fire safety equipment is working well and that everyone knows how to use it is that fire extinguishers save lives.
