Protecting Yourself on the Construction Site
It is the job of everyone at a construction site to keep themselves and those around them as safe as possible. This is done by not only being fully aware of your surroundings, but also properly using and having access to the right personal protective equipment for the job.
This begins by having the right clothing and shoes for the jobsite. All clothing should fit correctly and shoes should be steel toed to help reduce the risk of injury. Gloves should be worn to help reduce the risk of cuts and contact with hazardous materials, while goggles can be used as eye protection from chemical sprays and foreign material that can be kicked up while working.
On any jobsite, there is a possibility that something can fall from above. Having a hard hat in place will ensure that if something does fall, the risk of serious injury is minimal.
When lifting, you will need to have a back brace you use, to reduce the amount of injury that your back faces. You don’t want a heavy object to throw out your back or cause a long term problem that could be avoided if you had this device and used a proper lifting technique.
What you will find is that every situation you encounter on the construction site will have a set of protective gear that should be worn while doing it. Ensure that you don’t skip an item because you can’t find it or it is uncomfortable to wear. Each safety item is designed to be used to keep you safe at work.
Should something happen, be sure to contact emergency services right away. Those around you should locate first aid kits that may contain items to help treat cuts, burns and other jobsite concerns, until proper medical attention has arrived.
