What will happen if everything

What will happen if everything that we take for granted is just gone when we wake up one morning?

In more than half of the country, South Africans are using more water than what’s available. We are already using 98% of our available water supply, and 40% of our waste water treatment is in a “critical state”.

Here are some tips that we can do to help with this problem.

  • Turn-off the tap while brushing teeth, shaving or soaping hands.
  • Take shorter showers and use less water if you bath.
  • Avoid buying bottled water.
  • Use eco-friendly soaps and cleaning products.
  • You can store grey water in buckets to help flush toilets, water plants, wash cars, clean water for drinking, cooking & bathing.
  • Avoid leaving your taps running, use a cup when drinking water instead of using your hands to drink water on a running tap.
  • Re-use the final rinse water from washing machines for the next wash cycle.
  • Flush toilets only when necessary.
  • Monitor water meters for high consumption and possible water leaks
  • Reduce shower times
  • Confine watering of gardens to before 10:00 or after 16:00
  • Perform a water audit at home
  • Collect rainwater for re-using on the garden or washing the car.
  • Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.
  • Insulate hot water pipes so that not too much water is wasted when waiting for water to get hot.
  • Cover your swimming pool to reduce water evaporation
